Welcome to VOvember!

With many friends who are animators, I get immersed in and entertained by their prolific drawings during the month of “Inktober.”  I was inspired by their efforts and decided to do the same with my voiceover work.  The name VOvember popped into mind (and made me chuckle) since my VO fun follows the month after their Inktober.

So, scroll on down and here’s to VOvember and the creativity and exploration it brings each year!

November 30, 2023 – Dream – “The Big Engine”

VOvember 30th: Life got in the way of doing VOvember recordings for the last several days. But here’s a final one to cap off the month’s VOvember time behind the mic. Today’s prompt: “Dream.” And I let it lead me to 60’s sci-fi, because that’s one of my happy places and we should all visit our happy places as often as possible. #VOvember #VOvember2023 #Voiceover

November 21, 2023 – Wander – “The Phantom Herd”

VOvember 21st: Today’s prompt, “Wander,” helped me wander my way to microphone to record this bit from the 1916 book “The Phantom Herd” by B. M. Bowern. Can’t go wrong with a tale of an inspired filmmaker eager to give folks something they haven’t seen before (even if he disses Griffith Park a little in the process :P). #VOvember #VOvember2023 #Voiceover

November 20, 2023 – Spicy – “In Late September”

VOvember 20th: The prompt of “Spicey” led to a poem for my VOvember time behind the mic today. This is “In Late September” by Evaleen Stein from the 1902 book “Among the Trees Again.” #VOvember #VOvember2023 #Voiceover

November 19, 2023 – Rise – “The Rise of Roscoe Paine”

VOvember 19th: “Rise” was today’s prompt for my VOvember time behind the mic. Led me to “The Rise of Roscoe Paine” which I wasn’t familiar with but really enjoyed reading this bit of. #VOvember #vovember2023 #voiceover

November 15, 2023 – Demon – “Demon Lord”

VOvember 15th: “Demon” – fun prompt! Definitely good for my VOvember time behind the mic today, and I turned to a bit of script I found online earlier this month. Demon Lord is the character’s name — great, traditional demon-lordyesque-type text which I then put my own spin on. Just because. 🙂 #VOvember #VOvember2023 #Voiceover

November 12, 2023 – Celestial – “Human Nature”

VOvember 12th: “Celestial” was the prompt today for my VOvember practice behind the mic. It led to an interesting collection of plays called “King Arthur’s Socks and Other Village Plays” by Floyd Dell (1922). Here’s a bit of the start of one called “Human Nature.” #VOvember #VOvember2023 #Voiceover

November 11, 2023 – Scratchy – “Accidental Death”

VOvember 11th: Took a couple days off, and now back at the mic with the prompt “scratchy”. Here’s 63 secs. of “Accidental Death” by Peter Baily from the Feb. ’59 issue of Astounding Science Fiction magazine. #VOvember #VOvember2023 #Voiceover

November 8, 2023 – Shallow – “Lloyd’s Treatise on Hats, With Twenty-Four Engravings;”

VOvember 8th: Hats, of all places, is where today’s prompt of “shallow” for my VOvember recording led me. Didn’t know there was one called “The Shallow.” But 1819’s author by Robert Lloyd did. Here’s my take on his description of it. #VOvember #VOvember2023 #Voiceover

November 7, 2023 – Dangerous – “Shady thief-type. Face is probably covered in shadows”

VOvember 7th: Today’s prompt of “dangerous” for my VOvember recording led me to a page of neat fantasy script samples for voiceover offered by a writer named Kasey Cooley. Cooley wrote “Feel free to use at your leisure.” I eagerly (and with gratitude) accept that invitation! Here’s my run at “Shady thief-type. Face is probably covered in shadows.” #VOvember #VOvember2023 #Voiceover

November 6, 2023 – Remove – “Stain Remove from Fabrics, Home Methods”

VOvember 6th: Oh, this was a bit of fun. The prompt of “remove” for today’s VOvember recording led me to a 1942 Farmers’ Bulletin from the US Dept. of Agriculture. Here’s my take on the intro, written by Margaret S. Fury, Assistant Textile Chemist. #VOvember #VOvember2023 #Voiceover
